Toddler shoe size question?

Question: I am trying to take advantage of the summer sale and buy ahead for my daughter. She is 21 months old now and wears Stride Rite Size 8. I am looking to buy her sandals for the next summer. What size should I get? 9 or 9.5? How often do do have to buy new shoes for kids at this age, and do you usually just go up 1/2 size each time? like from 8 to 8.5 to 9 to 9.5 etc, or do you skip some sizes?

Answer: In all honesty, my son has gone through 5 pairs of sneakers /sandals in the past 8 months. Talk about a huge growth spurt. Around Christmas (22 months) he was in a size 6, and now he's in a 9.5. I was replacing his shoes about every 6 weeks. It's a combo of half and whole sizes. Depends on the individual shoe. Unfortunately, I can no longer afford the pricier shoes at Stride Rite. But I am truly quite content with Target or Payless shoes. He plays hard, his sandals hold up well, I throw them in the laundry, and then replace them a month or two later. If I were you, I'd even go for the larger size- 11 or 11.5. You're talking a full year away and I guarantee she will go through a growth spurt. Besides, she will grow into them eventually.
