How to use RIT Dye on cotton shirt?

Question: I have a simple white cotton shirt and some Navy Blue RIT dye. How exactly do I use it? I'll put the shirt in the washer, turn in on hot temp, and then just pour? How much and where?

Answer: If you really want it to "take" the dye then I have an alternative for you. Wash your shirt on a regular cycle to get the "sizing" out of it if it's a new shirt. Then, fill a large pot with water and place it on the stove and bring it to a boil. Dump 1 cup of salt in and stir, add the dye, stir. Now get the shirt wet and then put it in the dye. Now boil it for about 1/2 hour, using a long wooden spoon stir it occasionally. When it's done boiling then very carefully remove the shirt into a bucket of cold water. Now keep rinsing it until the water runs clear. Dry it. This is the best way to dye dark colors. An additional note: be sure to protect all surfaces when doing this as it will dye anything else it comes into contact with.
